Article Abstract:
The article verifies the convergence of technologies by examining the cell phone services and customers’ experience. Mobile phones are converging with PC applications and internet service. The author provides four points that can benefits customers by the convergence services. The four points are Identity, Location, Time, and Device. Service providers can give customer more personal and relevant services by these advantages.
Reflection:
Some services this article referred are being provided in Taiwan now; however, not many people enjoy those services. The internet services on cell phone are at the newly adopted stage, and not many people are using it. It still takes time and efforts for customers to adopt it. They could be more personal and relevant to customers. Take the traffic report services on cell phone for example, since everyone lives in different area, this service should be more specific and individual.
This convergence is the direction where phone service providers are working to. Since the variety of the personal services, we may see the mergers involving companies in other field, or the business collaboration with other companies.
In the discussion in the presentation, we all think the convergence will continues and involves more diversity. In the other hand, the specific device (though it convergences many technologies) would perform different tasks. For example, the internet services on cell phone would perform different tasks than the PCs. Customers may watch movies on their PC, but not on cell phone because of the screen size.
